Experiencing The Power of Music
Music is powerful. It helps us feel, connect with others, move, sing, get energized and lower anxiety… Per NAMI, “listening to music stimulates the nucleus accumbens part of the brain, in turn increasing dopamine levels in the body”, offering a form of therapy and aiding in emotion regulation.
My favorite musician is Tim McGraw, and, as the primary care partner for a mother living with dementia, I listen to a ton of his music; yet, seeing Tim and his boys in concert is what really fuels my soul. Many of the songs that Tim McGraw has written never make it onto his albums because he has this knack for picking songs that tell the stories his fans need to hear and convey the messages Tim truly wants to share, no matter who has written the song. It’s about the energy, emotion, lyrics, musical beat and more.
Whether the George Strait Country Music Festival in Clemson with Mary Margaret Harris back in 1999, Soul 2 Soul Vegas residency with Lori Bruhns in 2014, the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Festival with Amy Dailey or the many shows across North Carolina in between, nothing beats the magic of a live show with Tim McGraw and his very talented boys.
Back in May, I was able to attend Tim McGraw’s show at Nashville’s Music City Rodeo, where I got the joy of being able to chat with Tim about (1) the healing power of the music he chooses and (2) how much I appreciate the positive impact of when he speaks up for equal rights. As always, I’m extremely appreciative of the skills shared by Denny Hemingson, Bob Minner, Shawn Fichter, Deano Brown, Paul Bushnell, David Levita, Billy Nobel and Adam Shoenfeld. As you enjoy these snippets from the show, big thanks to Allison Flinn and Amy Dailey for your videography skills. I’m counting down the days until Tim and the boys will be back in Vegas for this year’s iHeartRadio Festival with me and Heather Hooper in the audience.
Speaking of concerts, grab your etiquette from this recent post by Danny Rosin. I’m still working on “supporting vocals” so I apologize for my singing in these videos, but there’s such truth to Danny’s words, especially how “Music festivals are where strangers become friends”, like connections built with Angela Bearchell, Kayla Blades, Gail Kraft and friends from so many Tim concerts over the years.
Now, which musical artists help fuel your soul? Further, which musical venues should I add to my “music visit” list for upcoming concerts? Finally, how can we get Tim McGraw back to Red Rocks to perform?!?
