Embrace Summer Fun with a Re-Entry Toolbox

 
 

Summer slipped into the Northern Hemisphere at 10:58am today, which possibly means your mind is dreaming about fun in the sun. 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿!

As we embark on this season of adventure and travel, it might be even more challenging to embrace work-life integration, but having the right toolbox for re-entry as you traverse the world can help.

When you’re struggling with productivity in post-holiday re-entry, consider these steps to help:

✔️ 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲. Do a data dump. Your brain is meant for thinking, not remembering, and asking it to recall your running to-do list is a recipe for disaster. Whether via paper or in a task manager app, capture it all.

✔️ 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀. When you think you’ve finished, dig deeper so each is a single task.

✔️ 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂. Does this task really need to be done? If not, can it be deleted? If it must be done, can someone else do it well enough? If so, can you delegate it? If you invest your time in what others can do, you steal time from what only you can do. Finally, if it must be done by you, what is a realistic deadline?

✔️ 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. When you bunch related tasks (calls, emails, writing), each of the tasks on your to-do list can be completed more efficiently. Likewise, when you put all the actions related to one project together, you can be in the same mindset when completing them, resolving it all more easily.

✔️ 𝗣𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. Is there a greater reward for the completion of one versus another? Is there a more painful penalty for putting one off versus another? Does one more effectively or efficiently move you closer to achieving your most important goals, crafting the life you truly desire?

✔️ 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱. Sometimes, the hardest part is starting, but you can do it, working step by step through your list and against the clock. When can you set an appointment with yourself to move tasks from to-do to done? Focus and stick to your priorities!

Now, take a deep breath and ease back into your routines, but always remember one important thing... 𝗕𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲. Here’s to fully enjoying the summer of 2023!
