First Friday Female Founder Feature: Syrena N. Williams, JD, MBA, PCC
One of the best connectors that I’ve ever met is Olalah Njenga. Thus, when Olalah spoke so highly of Syrena N. Williams, I knew she had to be amongst the good people of this world. Attending one of the first events re-introducing KNOW to the Triangle, Olalah made a point of connecting me and Syrena. From the moment we met, I was super impressed by this wonderful woman, and I know you will be, too. She’s a country mouse with a heart for service and a love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Syrena cares deeply about her friends, family and church community, which shines through as a minister, entrepreneur, lawyer, mother, sister, daughter and child of God. Enjoy a peek inside the mind and heart of this absolute rock star!

How would you describe your company and the products / services you offer?
The One Experience, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that creates transformative experiences for people who often find themselves as “The One”— the dependable one, the responsible one, the only one in the room or the one who holds it all together. Through events, coaching, workshops, retreats and professional development opportunities, we help people recalibrate and reconnect with themselves and with God, offering a holistic approach centered on six pathways: spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, relational and professional.
We create intentional spaces that blend spiritual growth, personal healing, leadership development and community connection. Whether it's our annual flagship event, The One Experience™, or our year-round leadership cohorts and wellness activations, everything we do is designed to restore balance, illuminate purpose and support long-term sustainability in both life and work.
Why did you start your company?
I started The One Experience out of a deep personal recognition of what it feels like to be “The One.” For most of my life, I carried the weight of responsibility — holding things together for others while quietly unraveling inside. After navigating my own seasons of burnout, heartbreak, transition and healing, I felt God call me to create what I wish I’d had: a sacred space where those who give so much to others could be poured into themselves.
The One Experience was born from my calling to help people restore what life, loss and leadership often wear down. It’s been a place for people to reconnect with themselves and with God, to breathe again, to dream again and to be reminded that they are not alone.
What has been the most rewarding part of your journey in founding this company?
The most rewarding part has been meeting the needs people didn’t even know they had. Watching someone exhale for the first time in years, shed burdens they’ve silently carried or find language for their pain and purpose — it’s humbling and sacred. I created The One Experience to fill a gap I once felt so deeply, and seeing others step into this space and experience healing, clarity and transformation affirms that it was never just about me.
It’s also been incredibly moving to share this vision with others and receive support and encouragement from people who see its value. There’s something powerful about building something that serves, uplifts and restores – and, then, watching others help carry it forward.
About what are you most proud?
I’m most proud of what we’ve been able to build in such a short time. The One Experience was officially founded in January 2024, and, within our first year, we’ve already hosted two powerful flagship events and launched three meaningful programs: Women, Money & Leadership to support women in financial and professional empowerment, Bright Futures to mentor and uplift our youth as well as Stronger Together to foster collaboration and resilience among nonprofit leaders.
I’m also proud that I’ve been able to stay present and committed to my two other businesses — Syrena Williams Legal Services and Practical Skills University — while building this new nonprofit. Balancing them all hasn’t been easy, but each one represents a piece of my calling, and, together, they allow me to serve people across legal, personal and transformational spaces.
Are you naturally organized, was it a skill you learned or is it something with which you regularly struggle, and what tips or tools do you use to stay your most organized?
I’m not naturally organized, but I love trying new things—and that requires structure so I don’t drop any balls. Over time, I’ve learned to create systems that support my creativity rather than stifle it. One of my go-to tools is my calendar, which I use to manage every aspect of my life: work appointments, workouts, rest and play.
Time blocking helps me stay productive and present, but, more importantly, it ensures I make time for the things that bring me joy. Having fun, taking breaks and living fully are part of how I stay energized and focused.
Who’s the one person who changed your life and why?
That’s a tough one because I truly believe we can learn something from everyone, and many people have influenced my life in meaningful ways. But one moment stands out. Early in my career, I met a woman who was speaking to a group of college students. I asked her how she managed to do it all, and her answer changed everything for me. She told me she had a daily appointment with herself on her calendar — and she treated it like a client meeting. If someone asked for that time, she’d simply say, “Sorry, I have an appointment.”
That small shift gave me permission to prioritize myself without apology. For over 20 years, I’ve kept that practice. It’s how I stay grounded, refueled and able to give to others without losing myself in the process.
What words of wisdom would you have for someone who is overwhelmed with staying organized and / or productive?
Overwhelm often comes from staring at the big picture and feeling like it’s just too much. Whether it’s a cluttered space or a big project, it can feel like a massive undertaking. When that happens, I first take a few deep breaths to remind my body it’s okay, and, then, I break it down into bite-sized pieces. I ask myself, “What actually needs to be done?” and map out the individual steps in order.
Then, I set a timer for just 15 minutes — especially if it’s something I’m avoiding. That focused block of time creates momentum. When the timer goes off, I feel lighter, encouraged and motivated to keep going. One piece at a time eventually gets it all done.
Do you use technology to help stay productive or organized? If so, what’s your favorite program, app or tech tool?
Absolutely. Technology plays a big role in helping me stay organized and productive —especially because I’m often on the move. I use Apple devices across the board — my phone, iPad and computer — and I love that they sync seamlessly. I can pick up exactly where I left off on any device, which is a game-changer for my workflow.
Google Calendar is my lifeline for managing all aspects of my schedule. And, for client management, I rely on HoneyBook. It allows me to keep track of services, documents, summaries and payments — all in one place, mostly automated. It helps me stay connected to my clients and run my businesses with clarity and ease.
How do you feel about work / life efficiency or integration in your life, including any tips or challenges for managing the personal and professional commitments in your life?
As an entrepreneur who has owned my law firm for over 16 years — and, now, leads three businesses — life/work integration isn’t just an option; it’s a necessity. Early in my journey, I was also a single mom, which meant my personal commitments were non-negotiable. My child’s needs, school activities and sports schedules came first. I managed it by adding key dates to my calendar immediately and staying in communication with teachers and coaches so I could plan ahead.
That calendar became my greatest tool. Once family and personal time were blocked off, clients could schedule within my available work hours. I built my days around what fueled me — starting after my morning self-care routine and wrapping up in time for meaningful connection or rest. I also noticed early on that, by Friday at 1 p.m., I was usually out of steam. So, I close early on Fridays, and, as my child became an adult, began offering Saturday morning sessions for clients who needed more flexibility. Integration is about designing a life that honors your energy, values and priorities.
About what causes are you most passionate?
I’m deeply passionate about wellness, truth and justice — and creating a world where we support one another in becoming better every day. I believe in healing as a lifestyle, not just a moment, and that everyone deserves access to spaces that foster growth, safety and dignity. Whether it’s through The One Experience, my legal practice or my coaching work, I’m driven by a desire to help people live whole, free and purpose-filled lives.
To me, justice isn’t just about systems — it’s about how we show up for one another. It’s about accountability, compassion and community care. I want to be part of building a culture where truth is honored, rest is valued, and people are empowered to thrive.
What have you found to be the most effective way to relax after a long day or super long week?
I don’t have just one go-to way to relax—what restores me often depends on what I need in the moment. Sometimes, it’s being in nature; other times, it’s learning something completely new like glassblowing or line dancing. I love live music and a good comedy show, both of which remind me not to take life too seriously. And, honestly, a well-earned nap can be just as powerful as a night out. Rejuvenation for me is about doing what makes me feel alive, free and full again.
What is your favorite author / book?
The Bible is my daily read. It’s a living, loving word that offers wisdom, truth and guidance for every part of life. No matter what I’m facing, I can find clarity, comfort or challenge in its pages. I also love The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz — it’s a powerful and quick refresher on how to live with intention and integrity. And, for fun, I recently enjoyed 99 Problems by Leslie Quigless — it was smart, sharp and a great reminder not to take myself too seriously.
What is your favorite inspirational quote?
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”— 1 John 3:1 (NIV)
This verse reminds me of my identity, worth and the depth of God’s love. No matter what’s happening around me, this truth anchors me: I am seen, chosen and loved.
What is your go-to accessory?
My lightweight, feathered, gold earrings. They go with everything and add just the right touch of elegance and personality without ever feeling too heavy or too much.
What are the fundamentals of your beauty routine?
Sleep—first and foremost. For years, I operated on just 2–3 hours of sleep a night due to health issues, and it took a serious toll on me. Now, rest is sacred. It’s the foundation of how I show up in the world. After that, moving my body every day is non-negotiable — both cardio and strength training. Wellness is my beauty routine from the inside out.
What is your favorite food?
French fries — hands down! Hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and perfectly salted… Yum! That said, fries are definitely a treat in moderation. On a more regular basis, I gravitate toward flavorful Asian and Indian fish dishes. They are delicious and satisfying while fitting my dairy-free lifestyle.
Of the locally-owned and -operated establishments in the place you currently live, which are your top 3 favorites?
Saltbox (Durham) – The seafood is always fresh, perfectly prepared and full of flavor. It is consistently amazing and never disappoints.
SAAP (Cary) – Their Laotian food is vibrant, authentic and absolutely delicious. Every dish is bursting with flavor and love.
InsideOut Body Therapies (Durham) – I love their full Pilates studio equipped with chairs, Cadillacs and reformers. It’s a peaceful, empowering space that supports both strength and restoration.
What is your favorite place that you have visited?
Morocco! I’ve been fortunate to travel to many beautiful places both domestically and internationally, but Morocco stands out. It offered the perfect balance of moving quickly, slowly and intentionally. The food was incredible, the body work restorative, the leather craftsmanship unmatched and the cultural immersion unforgettable. I left feeling both centered and completely at home.
What movie could you watch on endless loop?
That’s a tough one! I love a good action-packed, thought-provoking film—especially one where the good guys win. Give me a story with grit, heart and redemption, and I’ll happily watch it again and again.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Healing — emotionally, mentally and physically, without a doubt. The world would be a completely different place if people could experience true healing. I’d want that power to be transferable, too, so that every person I touched could carry it forward and help heal others. Imagine the ripple effect of wholeness and restoration.
What advice would you give your 21-year-old self?
Stop running from God. He’s going to catch you anyway.
If you could have lunch with anyone (living or deceased), who would it be and why?
My maternal grandmother, BigMa. I lost her when I was 14 and still miss her deeply. She was wise, kind and stern — with the best sense of humor. She had a way of laughing with me and correcting me in the same breath. I know she would’ve had so much more to teach me. She was a teacher, a softball pitcher, a butcher, a sewer and so much more. I would give anything to sit with her now, hear her stories and soak up the guidance she didn’t get to finish giving me.
